Initially, Vireo Perception was made by a single developer named Andres Hernandez. However, when it comes to performance, Vireo Perception is an alternative as VorpX is a little bit better when it comes to graphics and overall functionality.
When they emerged, I would not go as far as saying that Vireo Perception is an alternative since it was the first VR driver. It works pretty well with your Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
Vireo Perception is the only free alternative at the moment if you want to play your normal games in 3D.
